Wild tweed sounds, raw and fuzzy, for all southern blues style, ZZ’ style!

In the early days of blues music, tweed covered amp from a famous US brand were all the rage.

With their hot and raw temperament, they basically invented the US southern blues sound.

Sound is going from a warm bluesy clean at the start of the GAIN course, to a fuzzy wild overdrive when pushed above 8/10.

The TONE control range from a felted warm sound to a more aggressive/bleeding character.

The BRIGHT switch give the amp a slightly bright push, ideal for clean playing with single coil pickups.

Finally the DEEP switch can give a little boost in the low mid, usefull for some loudspeaker.

Quiet play

The Tweedy has the special « ultralinear master volume » technology, designed to play at any level, even at very low level at night. That master volume is very progressive, and easy to set even at low level. There is no jump in level like with a typical master volume, and it remains progressive until the end of the course. The amp also has a 20w/2w for the most quiet conditions, with a slight frequency correction in 2w mode to compensate for the bright response of some speakers at low level.

No Bias System

Change your tubes yourself, at home, no equipment needed. Freely choose between 6L6 and EL34 power tubes, you can even mix a 6L6 and an EL34. Procedure is quick, easy, and without risk. This will save you hundreds in maintenance every year, and will allow you to test many tube brands and combinations.

Big tubes

Were other amps uses cheaper EL84 tubes to get 20w, all FX amplifiers uses big EL34 or 6L6 tubes, just like the big 100w stack amps. These big tubes give a more massive sound, with increased bass response, even a low level. BIG TUBES = BIG SOUND!

Smart connections

The head version (and reverse head) features two speaker outputs in parallel, along with a 4/8/16 ohms impedance selector. This allows a variety of possible connections, with one or two cabinets from various impedances.

The combo version offers exactly the same outputs, and the speaker is externally connected (cable included). This allows for multiple smart connections. You can use the internal speaker alone, internal speaker + external cabinet, one external cabinet only, two external cabinets. It also allows the use of an attenuator with internal speaker or external cabinet, and the use of a loadbox for silent recording. Finally you can also use the combo as a cabinet for an external amplifier (In that case, turn off the amplifier section of the combo!!!)

DC tube heating

Heating tubes with DC current is quiter than the usual AC wiring. It takes more time to wire, and it’s a little bit more expensive, but it’s really worth it. Your Fx amplifier is guaranteed to be as quiet as possible.

How can I replace my tube?

Changing tubes in your Fx amplifier is very simple.

First unplug the amp, and let it sit for few seconds unplugged. If the amp had been recently used, wait for a while for the tubes to cool down, as they can become very hot!

Remove the back plate by unscrewing the 4 screws.

Remove existing tube by pulling it upward, and gently moving it left/right.

Place the new tube by simply plugging it, while taking care of the orientation of the tube. Preamp tubes have 9 pins, and a void, so rotate the tube to align the pins with the holes in the socket. Power tubes have 8 pins, and a central part with a small bump. That small bump should be align with a matching cut into the center of the socket to ensure proper placement.
DO NOT FORCE TOO MUCH, it should get in place pretty easily.

That’s it, no BIAS setting or anything else required, you’re good to go!

How to plug my amp to a cab?

To use your amplifier, you need a cabinet (or a loadbox, but it works the same way).

Fx amplifiers provide two speaker outputs, in parallel. You can use one or the other, or both.

When using a single cabinet, simple set the impedance selector to match the impedance of your cabinet.

When using two cabinets, please use two cabinets with the same impedance, and set the selector impedance to half the impedance of a cabinets, ie if you have two 16ohms cabinets plugged, set the impedance selector to 8ohms.

Fx combo amplifiers are not internally wired, to allow for a variety of possible connexions, so you must use an external speaker cable to connect the amplifier block to the internal speaker, or to an external one. You can also use the internal speaker + an external one, or two external speakers. In that case just follow the impedance rule given above.

ALWAYS CONNECT A SPEAKER BEFORE USE.

ONLY USE A DEDICATED SPEAKER CABLE. Do not use simple guitar cable, or any other kind of cable.

20w of US blues-rock sounds. 2 channels, 6L6 20w power section, tube effect loop.

The first channel is a blackface inspired clean channel. Hot and bright, it has a bright cap for extra definition even a low gain settings. Perfect for arpeggios or cleaner blues solo a la BB King with its punchy bass response.

The second channel is reminiscent of the clean channel, but with more gain, and a slightly warmer sound, this channel has no bright cap on it. Ideal for playing blues solo like SRV, but also sounds very good for more contemporary pop rhythm guitars.

The EQ is very effective at fine tuning your sound and is shared between the two channels.

The new Pimento is the spiciest of all ACE amplifiers.

Blackface cleans

The first channel of the Pimento is a dedicated clean channel inspired by the famous blackface circuits. Hot and bright, with punchy basses, it can goes from the cleanest sound to a nice and fat bluesy crunch. At lowest gain settings, sound is very clean, with lots of definition, very dynamic and reactive to your playing. This channel has a bright cap, so at low gain settings the amp doesn’t lose dynamic and stay clean and bright. At highest gain, the amp become wilder, with fat and slightly fuzzy basses, perfect for blues rhythm and has even enough for solos. Despite its single control, that channel is very versatile and will accommodate a very wide range of guitars and styles.

British drive … with a twist

The Drive channel is greatly inspired by our Colt model, but we made some slight changes to make it “spicier”. That channel is capable of very nice light crunches at lower gain settings, with a great vintage gain, and become progressively wilder and slightly more fuzzy and agressive at higher gains. With it’s dedicated 3-band tonestack, it can cover a wide range of drive sounds.

All in all, the Pimento is probably the most versatile ACE model to date, from clean blues to 80’s hard rock, it can play almost everything, always with it’s own character.

The head version (and reverse head) features two speaker outputs in parallel, along with a 4/8/16 ohms impedance selector. This allows a variety of possible connections, with one or two cabinets from various impedances.

The combo version offers exactly the same outputs, and the speaker is externally connected (cable included). This allows for multiple smart connections. You can use the internal speaker alone, internal speaker + external cabinet, one external cabinet only, two external cabinets. It also allows the use of an attenuator with internal speaker or external cabinet, and the use of a loadbox for silent recording. Finally you can also use the combo as a cabinet for an external amplifier (In that case, turn off the amplifier section of the combo!!!)

DC tube heating

Heating tubes with DC current is quiter than the usual AC wiring. It takes more time to wire, and it’s a little bit more expensive, but it’s really worth it. Your Fx amplifier is guaranteed to be as quiet as possible.
